Bread has been a staple of human civilization for over 30,000 years, playing a crucial role in our daily lives and representing our cultural heritage. From the earliest civilizations to the present day, bread has been a versatile food made from a combination of cracked grains and water, often resulting in a dry crust when left in the sun. According to historical records, the first bread was made in the Middle East around 8000 BC, specifically in Egypt. It is believed that the Egyptians, who also had expertise in brewing beer, were the first to create sourdough bread by adding wild yeast to the dough.

Bread is a staple food found worldwide, with each region having its own fascinating culinary history. Most modern consumers associate bread with wheat, which is only one grain that can be used, such as corn, barley, rye, millet, rice, and amaranth. However, wheat must be included if you want a risen loaf, as gluten, the "glue" that holds it together, is only found in wheat.
